A journey through painting, drawing & printmaking,
paralleling the Camino de Santiago de Compostela
across northern Spain.
Uterga, (over the Alto de Perdón), Pamplona /Iruña, Larrasoaña, Zubiri, Espinal, Roncesvalles, Val Carlos/Luzaide, Donibani Garazi
Our Camino walk started in St Jean Pied-de-Port, France. We walked westward towards Santiago. Read the painting right to left!
Our return to Spain was stopped by
the arrival of Covid-19, which has been devastating for the people of the towns along The Way. This detail from Painted Steps comes from Bosch, and is a reminder that plague is not a stranger on El Camino.
Belorado, cave house and below the mating beetles, one of the many Camino Romance stories witnessed along The Way
The bottom layer of Painted steps has studies from Bosch and, as above, Goya. I visited these two artists' work in Madrid in the week following León. They guided my journey of understanding afterwards and, helped me digest the experience.
